The uninhabited islets of this small archipelago in the northern Kattegat, seven kilometres out from Frederikshavn, have been handed over to the birds: some nine thousand black-headed gulls and close to four thousand Sandwich terns crowd onto forty-five hectares of low grass, shingle and salt meadow in the breeding season. Approach too near in June and the colony comes off the ground in a single sheet. You can look. Mostly, you cannot land.]]></description>
