In 1933 a motorcycle club near Slagelse looked at a curious grassy embankment in the Tude Å valley and saw a natural motocross course. The proposal is the reason anyone dug. What came out of the ground over the next eight years was a fortress built as a perfect circle, raised in a single season around the year 980, used for perhaps a decade, and then abandoned so completely that nobody ever bothered to repair it. Trelleborg is the best-preserved of the Viking ring fortresses, and it is the one that gave all the others their name.]]></description>
